Scientific Name: Vulpes zerda

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Fennec foxes are known worldwide for their enormous bat-like ears, which can grow up to 15 cm long!

  • They are the smallest fox species in the world, but also one of the most heat-tolerant.
  • Their thick, fluffy fur protects them from both the intense desert sun and chilly nighttime temperatures.

EVERY SPECIES COUNT

The fennec fox is not endangered, but it faces threats from habitat degradation and the illegal wildlife trade. Their adorable appearance makes them a common target for pet trafficking which is something that has a devastating impact on wild populations.
