Bonnet Macaque

Content Image

Scientific Name: Macaca radiata

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Bonnet macaques get their name from the tuft of hair that forms a “bonnet” over their head, nature’s built-in hairstyle!
  • They are incredibly social and live in large groups called troops, often with very complex friendship networks.
  • These macaques are excellent climbers and spend time both on the ground and high up in trees.
  • They communicate using a wide range of facial expressions, from friendly lip-smacking to playful grins.

EVERY SPECIES COUNT

Although Bonnet macaques are currently listed as Least Concern, their populations are declining due to habitat loss, urban expansion, and conflict with humans. Educating communities on coexistence and conservation plays a huge role in protecting this charismatic species.
