Common Warthog

Content Image

Scientific Name: Phacochoerus africanus

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Warthogs often kneel on their front legs while eating, using special calloused pads.
  • Their “warts” are actually thick skin growths that protect them during fights.
  • They can run up to 50 km/h!
  • When fleeing danger, they raise their tails like a flag, helping their babies follow.

EVERY SPECIES COUNT

Warthogs are resilient animals, but they still face threats from drought, habitat changes, and hunting. At Emirates Park Zoo, we educate visitors on the importance of wild pigs in maintaining grassland health.
