DID YOU KNOW?

  • Their long, curved horns can reach 1 meter in length, and both males and females have them.
  • They can tolerate extreme heat and rarely need to drink water.
  • Once extinct in the wild, they are now being successfully reintroduced thanks to global conservation programs.

EVERY SPECIES COUNT

The scimitar-horned oryx is currently listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List, a significant recovery from its previous status of “Extinct in the Wild”. This reclassification is a result of successful international conservation efforts. Emirates Park Zoo supports awareness of desert species and their fragile ecosystems.
