Spotted Python

Scientific Name: Antaresia maculosa

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Despite its name, the Spotted Python’s pattern can vary greatly, with some individuals having many spots while others have very few.
  • Spotted Pythons are excellent climbers and are often found sheltering in rocky crevices, hollow logs, and even the roofs of buildings in search of food.
  • Like all pythons, the Spotted Python is non-venomous. Instead of using venom, it captures its prey by wrapping its body around it and gently constricting until the animal can no longer breathe.

EVERY SPECIES COUNT

Spotted Pythons are currently listed as Least Concern, but they still face threats from habitat loss, road mortality, and persecution by humans who mistakenly believe they are dangerous. Protecting natural habitats and promoting understanding of native wildlife helps ensure that these important predators continue to thrive in the wild.
